What causes roll-over accidents?

Roll-over accidents are something that plague the trucking industry. As a driver, you are at a higher risk for this type of accident than a passenger vehicle simply due to the size and design of your truck. However, there is a lot of misinformation and misunderstandings about what causes this type of accident. Getting to the truth can help you to better prevent a roll-over when you are driving.

True North Companies points out that bad roads, bad weather and reckless driving are not the main causes of large truck roll-over accidents. In fact, most of these accidents happen on dry roads where a driver is not making a lot of quick movements. Inexperience is also not a contributing factor because most accidents happen to seasoned drivers.

So, what does cause roll overs? The main cause is an error made by you when driving. This could be overcorrecting, speeding or just not paying attention. Sometimes your truck could be to blame. If it is not loaded correctly, that could throw off your balance. Bad brakes are another main cause.

With this in mind, you should always check your vehicle before hitting the road. Ensure everything is in working order. Do your safety checks. Watch your truck being loaded to ensure it is properly balanced. Finally, never get comfortable behind the wheel. Becoming too comfortable leads to delayed reaction times and a lack of concentration. You must pay attention to the road at all times. This information is only intended to educate and should not be interpreted as legal advice.
