Pedestrian accident leaves 1 dead in Maryland

When you take a walk, you have a level of comfort that you will reach your destination in one piece. In actuality, being a pedestrian in Maryland doesn't always ensure you will be safe. Sadly, there is a chance you will be involved in a pedestrian accident. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, 4,092 people perished due to being struck by a vehicle.

In Hagerstown, Maryland, the Maryland State Police are looking into the death of a 32-year-old man from that town. He was struck by a car while he was out for a walk along U.S. Highway 40, just west of the city.

The man was killed at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31. Witnesses say that the man was walking, veered right and entered into a turn lane on the westbound side of U.S. Highway 40.

This was near the main entrance to the Centre at Hagerstown shopping area. The outdoor mall is located near to the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and U.S. Interstate 81.

The 23-year-old driver who allegedly struck and killed the man was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and was released.

There are many causes of pedestrian accidents. One of the leading causes is distracted driving. Changing the radio station, texting, talking on the phone and generally not paying attention to the road are all major distractions.

It is extremely easy to miss seeing a pedestrian who is crossing the street, jogging on the shoulder of the road or simply trying to get from one corner to the other. Pedestrians have been seriously injured in Maryland and, as in this case, have perished due to a driver not seeing him in the roadway.

The police are not giving any information on charges, if any, to be brought in this case.

If you have lost a loved one due to a pedestrian accident, you may want to talk to a professional who will listen carefully and guide you in the process of being compensated for loss of wages, pain and suffering and medical bills.
