Truck accident in Maryland at TV station brings property damage

A sad occurrence happened in Towson, Maryland, located just outside of Baltimore. A man drove his pick-up truck through the glass doors of a television news station building. He then created a barrier that he hid behind in order to stay in the station. He was arrested some hours later. This report came from the police and from eye witnesses.

Initially, the man rapped on the door of WMAR-TV, just before noon and asked to be allowed to enter. He shouted that he was God and needed to get inside. The employees denied him entry.

That was when he went and got his truck and drove it into the lobby. He rammed the truck into the building three times before it broke through the doors. He then went to the second floor and created a barricade there.

The man began to shout incoherently and raved on and on from the second floor. It was clear to the Baltimore County Police Chief that the man was mentally disturbed.

The man was taken into custody at approximately 4:40 p.m. He was in the editing room on the second floor holding a golf club while watching the television news coverage of his situation.

He was watching many different channels that were covering his truck accident as events unfolded. He was taken to the hospital even though he was uninjured for medical evaluation. He will more than likely have criminal charges filed against him at a later date.

His accident caused the evacuation of 55 employees while one person was safely in the basement during the altercation.

The truck was not the man's who caused the truck accident; it was stolen earlier that day because it was left unattended. It belonged to a subcontractor of the State Highway Administration.

This unfortunate event could have been so much worse, however the station has legal rights as do the employees of the television company.
